The Citizens here in the Tavern are overjoyed with the current situation surrounding their club, having seen their players perform well above their pay grade. City have enjoyed their best start to a Premier League season, on their way to a 9 point lead, and an impressive unbeaten streak still in check. Life under Pep Guardiola couldn’t get any better, with the trailing pack struggling to keep up with the City Express.
There’s an incredible buzz flying around the air with the current legacy Guardiola has managed to build in his short stint as manager, due to certain players prospering under his guidance. In recent times, the defensive pairing has been the subject of a rotation cycle with the reoccurring injuries to Vincent Kompany causing for the Belgian to become a passenger, with the settled successful partnership of Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones continuing to blossom.
No reason to change a winning mentality, right?
In a fairly unsurprising way, this is was a decision that confused the majority of City fans here in the Tavern, with such a vital ingredient spending the bulk of his time out of the side. Our Landlord here in the Tavern proposed a poll was to take place to settle the matter of whether Kompany was no longer good enough to fit into the side, which resulted in a comfortable 60% of fans opting for the centre-back to be granted his place back in the heart of the defence.
There’s a mixed opinion on this result, with the understandable inclusion of their captain and a player of Kompany’s talents being warranted, for a man who many sides would do anything to acquire.
However, with the current streak that Guardiola’s side are enjoying, it would seem ludicrous to change the already indestructible combination that has been so successful already this season.
With Manchester City nearing perfection, the added depth of Kompany’s quality provides no reason as to why they can’t continue to house their fans in the dreamland they currently live in.
City fans, thoughts?
