The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with the squad that Pep Guardiola has built at the Etihad. With so much quality available to him, it’s no real surprise that his team is taking the league by storm. The real challenge for Pep Guardiola, then, will be keeping his talented squad together long-term.
In response to discussions on that very topic, our landlord has been chatting to our resident punters about a few of Man City’s key men, and whether the club should look to secure their long-term futures by offering them new deals. This, of course, comes on the back of reports suggesting that a number of players could sign on at the club.
With names like Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane all in the conversation, our landlord decided to open it up to a poll with a very simple question – which deal should Man City prioritise? The results, it’s safe to say, were pretty surprising.
Undoubtedly, the most shocking result was with regards to Fernandinho. Though not as skilful or as exciting as some of his teammates, Fernandinho is one of Man City’s most important players, having been one of the few ever-presents in Pep Guardiola’s team this season. Even so, just 3% of fans felt that his contract should be prioritised, despite the fact that it ends at the end of the season.
He’s incredibly unique in the Man City first team, and he’s the glue that holds the rest of the team together. Sure, he might be in his 30s now, but his influence is only increasing at the moment – it certainly isn’t going down.
Unsurprisingly, Kevin De Bruyne won the most support, with 59% of the vote, which given his recent form is no surprise. Consistent attackers Leroy Sane and David Silva – who has now signed his deal – rounded off the results, with 29% and 9% of the vote respectively.
Each of the players is deserving of a new deal, but the fact that just 3% of supporters recognise how important the midfield maestro Fernandinho is really surprised our landlord.
