This is not a popular view with the Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…

Wayne Rooney has come under some serious criticism from the punters in the Tavern this season, and much of it is warranted.

Compared to the Rooney of old, the English veteran has been in poor form – and often times, that will directly lead to a spell on the sidelines.

Jose Mourinho is rarely a manager that will put up with poor form, and so Rooney has been relegated to a bit-part role for much of the season so far – but simply put: that must change going forward.

Granted, Rooney has not been in great form – but at this point, he is the best option that Man Utd have – and there is a number of reasons as to why that is the case.

With that said, Rooney must start every Man Utd game from now on, here’s 2 reasons why..

Poor Alternatives

In simple terms – Jose Mourinho has very little choice but to pick Wayne Rooney.

Marcus Rashford is still young, and in truth, in recent weeks he has looked a little off the pace. It looks like he needs a bit of time on the sidelines.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, on the other hand, started the season very well – but has dropped off as of late.

Whilst Rooney is not in the best form at present, he still represents a better option than Mourinho’s other choices – and he must be given a chance to prove himself, as the others have been.

Proven Quality

Wayne Rooney is out of form. Everyone in the Tavern knows that.

But his past record speaks for itself. He has consistently been an outlet for goals since joining Man Utd, and Mourinho must not ignore that.

Goals may have dried up, but class is permanent – and Rooney will come good again.

He has it all – he just needs to be given a chance by Mourinho – and then he will repay the faith.
