Tottenham Hotspur are now targeting Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim to replace Antonio Conte as manager, according to a report.
The Lowdown: Spurs assessing their options
With Football Insider recently reporting that Tottenham are set to mutually part ways with Conte at the end of the season, the club have now started the process of finding a suitable replacement.
Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has been named as the lead contender for the job, however he is not the only option for Daniel Levy, with Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel also said to be in the frame.
The Latest: Amorim targeted
According to reports from Portugal however (via Sport Witness), Spurs are also targeting Amorim, but he will not come cheap as he has a €20m (£17.7m) release clause included in his current contract.
Tottenham are set to face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, as the French club are considering the Sporting boss as a potential replacement for Christophe Galtier, but the Lilywhites are in pole position “at the head” of the list of suitors.
The Verdict: Get it done?
Hailed as ‘sensational’ by members of the media, the Portuguese coach has done a fine job in his home country, winning five trophies during spells with Sporting CP and SC Braga.
That record is particularly impressive given that the tactician is just 38-years-old, still very young for a manager, and he could be ready to take that next step by moving to a top Premier League club.
However, Amorim has no experience in England, so appointing him would undoubtedly be a risk for Levy, especially when there are other managers on the shortlist who have a proven track record in the Premier League, most notably Tuchel, who won the 2020-21 Champions League with Chelsea.
