Manchester United are considering a summer move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Neves set for Wolves exit
The Portuguese international has now entered the final 18 months of his contract at Molineux where his future has recently been facing plenty of uncertainty.
The Old Gold’s playmaker is unlikely to sign a new deal in order to fulfil his ambition of competing in the Champions League, where he’s even previously admitted that he came close to an exit last summer.
Several Premier League clubs have been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old, and with the Red Devils described as long-term admirers, he could be on his way to Old Trafford.
The Latest: Man United eyeing Neves
According to Spanish outlet Sport (via CaughtOffside), Neves has attracted ‘interest’ from Man Utd, Liverpool and Newcastle ahead of a potential move this summer.
The Midlands star was ‘keen on a move’ to Barcelona, but with the Blaugrana not wanting to pursue a deal, he is now ‘prepared to listen to offers’ from top-flight sides.
Whether Erik ten Hag could ‘convince’ the player to join ‘remains to be seen’, so this could be one to keep an eye on.
The Verdict: McTominay successor?
Scott McTominay is reportedly open to an exit at the end of the season amid a lack of game time so Neves could be the perfect successor should he decide to move on.
The Nike-sponsored athlete currently averages 2.6 clearances and 2.5 tackles per league game, with five man-of-the-match awards to his name across all competitions this season (WhoScored).
Dubbed a ‘beast’ by Jimmy Conrad, Neves would also bring leadership qualities to the side being the captain of Wolves, making him the perfect central defensive acquisition for United.
