Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘willing to sell’ Ryan Giles should they avoid relegation from the Premier League, according to journalist Scott Wilson.
The Lowdown: January talks held
The Old Gold defender is currently out on a season-long loan at Middlesbrough, where he’s been excelling under the guidance of Michael Carrick.
The Riverside Stadium outfit reportedly held initial talks with the Midlands hierarchy in January regarding a permanent transfer, though the club ruled it out at the time.
The 23-year-old’s contract at Molineux isn’t set to expire until 2025, but it sounds like Julen Lopetegui has already made a decision on where his future lies, all depending on one condition.
The Latest: Giles set for exit?
Taking to Twitter, Wilson revealed that Wolves will be open to a sale if they can avoid the drop at the end of the term. He wrote:
“Wolves will be willing to sell Ryan Giles to #Boro in the summer – provided they remain in the Premier League this season…”
Expanding in his column for The Northern Echo, the reporter confirmed that the two clubs have an ‘open’ line of communication.
The Verdict: Best for both parties
Giles has been hailed a ‘quality’ defender by journalist Josh Bunting, but Wolves letting him go would be the best outcome for both parties.
The Telford-born talent has only made one senior appearance during his time at the club and it’s likely that he wouldn’t get a look in on the first-team should they maintain their top-flight status.
Boro’s loan starlet has clocked up eight assists in 35 outings across all competitions for Carrick’s side and is getting the regular game time he’s been craving so sanctioning a sale in order to progress his career further is what he needs.
