A number of Southampton fans have lavished praise on Danny Ings‘ “masterclass” performance in their 2-0 win against Premier League pacesetters Everton this afternoon.
Ings delivered an exceptional performance, with his work-rate constantly allowing the Saints to put pressure on Everton’s defenders and preventing the Toffees getting into their rhythm. The 28-year-old was also a constant threat throughout with his consistent quality in possession.
The striker, normally Southampton’s go-to man for goals, turned provider in the first half for the Saints. Ings produced an excellent moment of link-up play with James Ward-Prowse, who played the ball into the forward before receiving the ball back inside the area and firing home the opening goal.

A few minutes later, the ex-Liverpool man pulled away with a fine run into the channels and held the ball up before delivering a brilliant cross right to the feet of strike partner Che Adams. The former Birmingham City striker composed himself before firing the ball past Jordan Pickford to double the Saints’ lead.
On another day Ings could and maybe should have completed a perfect performance by adding a goal in the second half. However, he still averaged two key passes and completed four successful dribbles in an all-round excellent performance (Sofascore)

Many Southampton fans were quick to point out the importance of Ings’ contribution across all areas of his game, while others pointed out how much influence he had on the match compared to Everton’s in-form striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
