Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to see the arrival of some new faces this January with the transfer window now open.
But as well as that, the former Liverpool boss will also be keen to keep all of his star assets, something that looks like a strong possibility given central defender Filip Benkovic is likely to remain at the club until the end of the season.
There was a worry that the 21-year-old could be recalled from his loan spell by parent club Leicester City, but Claude Puel has since come out to quash those fears.
“We have a lot of defenders at the club,” Puel told Sky Sports. “Assuming we don’t get any injuries, it’s better Filip maintains his loan at Celtic,” the Leicester manager added.
And given how £9.9m-rated (Transfermarkt) Benkovic has performed this term, Puel’s words will come as great news and a huge relief to Rodgers.
After a poor start to the campaign defensively, Benkovic has since come into the Celtic team and helped them drastically in that department.
Alongside Dedryck Boyata, Benkovic has become one half of a very strong central defensive partnership, which could prove to be imperative as the season goes on with rivals Rangers hot on Celtic’s tails in the SPL title race.
