Yesterday saw Celtic edge out Aberdeen at Hampden Park to win the first piece of silverware this season. It was same old same old for the Hoops as the Scottish League Cup is nos the 7th consecutive trophy they’ve won, and after the game the fans were calling for Brendan Rodgers to fork out to sign their on-loan defender, Filip Benkovic on a permanent deal.

The Croatian defender may not be the next Virgil van Dijk, but he’s still a star player and one of the brightest sparks in both this Celtic side and the Scottish Premier League. You can forgive the fans for getting excited about the defender but in truth, it will all mean nothing if they aren’t able to prise him from Leicester City in the summer. The Foxes likely won’t give the 21-year-old away easily, but the Bhoys have to have a go at signing him.
It looks like the big ex-Dinamo Zagreb man has settled into life at Parkhead with relative ease, and he’s helped his new side win their first honour of the season as he’s helped his side get through both the semi-final and final of the Scottish League Cup with two clean sheets. The next step for Benkovic and co will be retaking top spot in the Scottish Premier League and to continue fighting for the elusive treble-treble come to the end of the season.

The Hoops know that they have a player on their hands in Benkovic and would do anything to see him sign permanently.
