A few weeks ago, a lot of the Bhoys were calling for Mikael Lustig to be let go as soon as possible. The Swedish defender was one of those who simply wasn’t meeting the required standards of a Celtic player as the club flailed in the Scottish Premier League. Now, though, there’s been none of that and both the player and the club have been in superb form.

In Scott Brown’s absence, Lustig has been given the captain’s armband by Brendan Rodgers and the experienced Swede has delivered in the way that all of the fans have been calling for him too. It looks like the added responsibility of being the captain has seen Lustig reach a whole new level, the 31-year-old has made 26 appearances this season, and with most of those coming as the Hoops’ skipper, only good things have come from his game.
Brendan Rodgers will need to have some sort of plan in place for when the likes of Brown, Lustig and some of the Bhoys’ more senior pros hang up their boots, but if they can carry on competing at the top level of the Scottish game well into their thirties then there’s no need to faze them out, even if a lot of fans were calling for Lustig’s head just a matter of months ago.
You can see what the Bhoys have made of Lustig’s form here:

Great pic – Also, Lustig has been excellent since the Murrayfield semifinal IMO.

The Hoops are loving Lustig at the moment and will hope his form can stay at this level for the rest of the season.
