James Tavernier has been a huge player under Steven Gerrard so far this season. The English right-back has shown time and time again how big an influence he can be at both ends of the pitch, however, after a few loose performances he’s come under fire from the fans, and the SPFL’s tweet describing him as ‘The Blue Cafu’ has led to plenty of criticism from Celtic fans.
Happy 27th Birthday to @James_Tavernier!

Celtic fans love having a good laugh at Rangers’ expense and this is no different. Whilst Tavernier is a good solid player at Ibrox, to compare him in anyway to Cafu is laughable. His goals and assists have helped Stevie G’s side greatly this season and so far he’s shown that he is captain material as a Ger, even after his Hampden park shocker. He wasn’t the only one to bottle the Scottish League Cup semi-final, though, no matter what Celtic fans tell you.
In 21 games for Rangers this season, Tavernier has managed to net himself eight goals and set up a further eight for teammates, a more than healthy return from right-back. The next step for the defender will be to be a bit more solid at the back and that is one thing that the Bhoys are picking up on as they tear into the Rangers man. If Tavernier can step up tonight with a goal and a clean sheet then he’ll shut the Hoops right up, but it’s all about performing and putting in a shift will do him wonders tonight.

I’m sure Cafu could actually cross a ball without hitting the first defender every time though

The Poundland Cafu perhaps more fitting.

The Hoops love slating Rangers and giving it out to Tavernier will be very enjoyable for them.
