Celtic suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against RB Leipzig on Germany on Thursday evening in a fixture which served to underline their shortcomings in Europe, but they have no time to feel sorry for themselves with a Betfred Cup semi-final fixture against Hearts looming on Sunday.
Indeed, Brendan Rodgers’ side were outclassed in their midweek Europa League clash and their chances of progressing to the knockout stages look slim in light of the result.
Not only did the result represent a disappointing blow for the Hoops, but they also collected a couple of fresh injury concerns ahead of their clash with Hearts.
Jozo Simunovic and Cristian Gamboa were both added to a growing injury list for Celtic to deal with, whilst Scott Brown and Dedryck Boyata will both miss out through suspension.
Journalist Barry Anderson confirmed the news via his Twitter account on Friday.
Celtic without Scott Brown (calf) and Dedryck Boyata (suspended) for the Betfred Cup semi-final with Hearts. Also injuries to Griffiths (calf), Rogic (knee), Simunovic (ankle), Ajer (hamstring), Benkovic (Achilles), Gamboa (hamstring) and Bitton (knee).#Celtic #HMFC

In response to reports, plenty of Hearts supporters turned out on Twitter to deliver their verdict on the update, and they were eager to emphasise that they are also missing key players ahead of the weekend.
Despite Celtic’s extensive list of absentees, the Hearts supporters are guarding against complacency ahead of what still promises to be an incredibly difficult encounter for the club.
