Ideal Xmas XI: Celtic

Ideal Xmas XI: Celtic - Celtic

Celtic will be desperate to secure yet another treble in the current campaign, having tasted success in the form of the Scottish League Cup.

The Hoops are through to the knockout stages of the Europa League and have plenty of opportunities to secure silverware in domestic competitions, so they’ll feel confident as they head into the second half of the season.

Although, the Christmas period could prove decisive with the January transfer window set to open, so Rodgers should definitely look at bringing in at least one quality player in order to boost his side’s silverware chances.

Sadly, injuries have had an effect on the Hoops’ campaign already and potential departures could come into play in January, but if everything was perfect it would be a whole different story.

With that in mind, here’s a look at what Celtic’s ideal Xmas XI would look like…

Craig Gordon has been sensational in-between the sticks for the Hoops in the current campaign, apart from making a howler against Red Bull Salzburg in the Europa League recently.

Kieran Tierney continues to develop into one of the hottest prospects in world football, but Brendan Rodgers should look at deploying Swansea City’s Connor Roberts on the opposite flank as Mikael Lustig has struggled and is ageing. Also, Celtic will be desperate to hold onto the impressive Dedryck Boyata, who has attracted interest from Fulham, while transfer target Scott McKenna would sure things up at the heart of the defence.

Scott Brown has been influential throughout his career at Celtic Park and still leads by example to this day, while Olivier Ntcham has been able to provide valuable contributions from the middle of midfield.

Celtic’s attacking three would consist of Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor and James Forrest. The latter has been on absolute fire in the current campaign, with an incredible amount of goals and assists to his name. And, McGregor has been the source of all things brilliant for the Hoops in the final third, with Christie enjoying his best ever season.

Lastly, the Hoops will need to bring in another striker to provide support for Odsonne Edouard at the pinnacle of the attack, but it will be very difficult for anyone to push him out of the side as his contributions have been priceless.
