If these two Celtic players don’t start performing, Rodgers needs to sell them imminently

With the European transfer window and EFL domestic loan window slamming shut imminently, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will be feeling the pressure to sort out any potential outgoings as soon as possible.

It’s been a difficult start for Celtic, crashing out of the Champions League to AEK Athens, causing a huge financial blow for the Hoops. Furthermore, they lost a league match away in Edinburgh against Heart of Midlothian, compounding their poor start.

With cross-city rivals Rangers strengthening under Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, for the first time in many seasons, it feels like Celtic could face a real challenge for the title.

Celtic are a squad carrying some players who are not really going to contribute this season. Brendan Rodgers should perhaps look to sell certain players if they fail to impress, but the clock is ticking to move them on.

With that in mind, here are two players who the Northern Irish manager should sell imminently if they don’t start performing…

Jonny Hayes

The 31-year-old winger’s career has never really taken off at Celtic Park, after being so impressive for many years with Aberdeen.

Jonny Hayes has a job on his hands to impress Brendan Rodgers in training, or surely he should be moved on from the Glasgow club.

With talents like Scott Sinclair and James Forrest at the club, it is hard to see how Hayes will stake a claim for regular football. Time is running out for Brendan Rodgers to find a new club for the Irishman.

Ryan Christie

Another player with previous at Aberdeen, the Inverness-born 23-year-old would perhaps enjoy more regular football elsewhere.

He was a mainstay in the Aberdeen team last season, and helped the Reds to a second place finish in the Scottish Premiership. Since joining Celtic in 2015, his career has never really taken off and he has struggled for first-team action ever since his transfer from Inverness Caledonian Thistle. His talents would be better utilised at another club, with less strength in depth in midfield than Celtic.
