Celtic booked their place in the Scottish League Cup final with a dominant 3-0 victory over Hearts on Sunday.
The Hoops had to wait until the second half to break the deadlock, but the floodgates were soon open. Scott Sinclair opened the scoring from the penalty spot before a goalkeeping error allowed James Forrest to double their advantage. A superb late goal from Ryan Christie completed the 19-minute rout and ensured Celtic passage into the cup final.
Brendan Rodgers deserves plenty of praise for the victory with Celtic missing a number of key defenders for the clash. Despite their inconsistent start to the new campaign, the Bhoys looked back to their brilliant best. Rodgers will be hoping their form continues in the coming weeks as Celtic look to climb the Scottish Premiership table.
Attention will also turn to transfers when the window opens in just two months time. With Celtic desperately in need of defensive reinforcements, Rodgers should attempt to sign Swansea defender – Joe Rodon. Valued at only £225k by Transfermarkt, the defender has been in fine form for Rodgers’ former club, and the Northern Irishman should attempt to lure him to Parkhead.
Rodon has one of the stand out stars in the Championship, and his excellent form was rewarded with a call-up to the Wales national team. His development has been rapid and the 21-year-old looks set to blossom into one of the country’s finest defenders. Rodon is a fantastic passer and is comfortable with the ball at his feet meaning he would slot seamlessly into Rodgers’ system at Celtic Park.
Not since Virgil van Dijk have Celtic had a defender who can dictate games from the back – Rodon could be the ideal replacement.
