Celtic’s defensive problems have already, and will continue to, cost Brendan Rodgers’ side this season. Indeed, the Bhoys remain light in central defence and can’t be considered a genuine threat on the European front until they sorted.
Whether that improvement comes in the form of coaching or the transfer front is up for debate. Rodgers’ sides have never really been known for their resolute defending, so perhaps he should look to bring someone in who can shore up the backline.
With that in mind, we recently asked our Celtic reading supporters if they’d back a move for Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous or not. The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the strongest centre-backs in the Scottish Premiership over at Easter Road and, while he has a long way to go to prove himself, could be a prospect for both club and country in the years to come.
However, from the results of our poll, you can see a small majority of Celtic fans don’t actually think he’s good enough yet. While that shoots us down a bit, 43% of those who voted DO think he’d be a good addition, if a little raw it seems.
