The Celtic are understandably still disappointed about their Champions League exit and now all hopes are reliant on qualifying for the Europa League.
Brendan Rodgers failed to qualify for the competition for the first time since taking charge at Celtic and that has brought criticism to the former Liverpool boss. Whether the Hoops can give a real go to the Europa League is yet unknown but with the very real possibility of no European football at all this season, Celtic have to recruit some top players and fast.
Having already conducted business with Manchester City in the past, Celtic should exploit that relationship again by persuading Oleksandr Zinchenko to come to Scotland.
The highly-rated City youngster has been a wanted man over the summer and after a last-minute move to Wolves fell through on the last day, the Ukrainian is still with City but unsure as to whether he will get any game-time this season after Pep Guardiola was ready to get rid of him.
Zinchenko, 21, is valued at £13.5 million on Transfermarkt as he appeared in 14 first-team games last season, a surprise to many. Not only that but for the most part, he was played out of position and used as a wing-back, something completely different to his usual attacking-midfield role.
With such versatility even at his young age, Zinchenko would be a massive coup for Celtic and a step in the right direction for qualifying for the Europa League. The link between Celtic and Manchester City is strong and with the potential to bag another one of their top youngsters, the Hoops’ season won’t be over yet like some have said.
