Rangers were unfortunate enough to lose 1-0 yesterday in the Scottish League Cup final Hampden Park. The Gers fell to a late Lewis Ferguson goal and were left with nothing but what-ifs as Aberdeen booked a Hampden return to face Celtic in the final in December. After the game, James Tavernier spoke to Rangers TV, and the fans were quick to slander their captain.

Tavernier is one of those players where if he’s not on it, he’s awful. The Rangers captain has been one of Steven Gerrard’s standout men this season with his eight goals and eight assists from right-back, although there’s no defending his performance from yesterday as his delivery was woeful and he seemed to hide, as if the occasion got the better of him when it mattered in Gerrard’s first managerial semi-final.
Whilst The Bluenoses will still be struggling to swallow the bitter pill of semi-final heartbreak, they’ll have to get back to it and quickly as they face Kilmarnock on Wednesday in the Scottish Premier League and will be desperate to bounce back with three points and a good performance. Tavernier will be as keen as anyone to get back to form in two days time and he’ll be trying to show the fans what he really is capable of after he fell short of expectations at Hampden Park.
You can read The Gers’ thoughts on Tavernier here:
i wont slate him him but hes never captain material and he couldn't cross the road as i said i will not slate him #marmite

Needs benched for a few games

Not a knee jerk reaction but Tav isn’t good enough – not captain material either – doesn’t inspire his team or our support – delivery can be wonderful but can also be dreadful , no in between — hides in big matches – not in the same ilk as Gough, Ferguson, Amo, Moore etc

Apology not accepted. And take off that armband cos you ain't a Rangers captain in a million years.

Continually lets us down in the games that really matter.

The fans aren’t happy at all with Tavernier and will hope he can quickly put the Hampden disappointment and performance out of his mind and get back to form.
