Brendan Rodgers will now need to get one up on his Glasgow counterpart Steven Gerrard in the transfer window.
Celtic will be well aware of Rangers’ moves for Jermain Defoe and a reported return for Steven Davies, meaning they will have to step up their game in the transfer window to sustain their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
In order for The Bhoys to remain at the top, they will need to add a couple of names particularly in the forward and centre-back areas, where they have been lacking strength in depth this season.
Therefore, Rodgers must make moves for this DUO in January…
Since his breakout season at West Ham United in 2015/16, Reece Oxford has been on loans to Reading and more recently Borussia Monchengladbach, but even after impressing in Germany, he has not impressed Manuel Pellegrini enough to keep him with the first-team.
Now aged 20, a move away from the capital seems the best option. Oxford clearly has the talent, he displayed it aged 16 in his breakout season and has done since, hence the reason he was wanted by two Bundesliga powerhouses in Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig.
Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic have formed a solid partnership at centre-back so far this season, however, once Benkovic’s loan ends, Celtic will be left with just Boyata, Kristoffer Ajer, Jack Hendry and Jozo Simunovic, so they will need someone more reliable to partner the Belgian than any of the former trio.
Oxford could be that man. By learning off Boyata and Benkovic this season, he could cement his place next season and Celtic Park could be the place where the England youth international gets his career back on track.
Son of football icon George Weah, his son has a huge reputation to live up to and the United States international is doing his father proud so far.
Weah is at Paris Saint-Germain like his father was 24 years ago. However, after starting this season brightly with a goal in the Trophee des Champions final, as well as a goal in two appearances in Ligue 1 amounting to 53 minutes, he has not featured since due to the arrival as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as the second choice striker.
He would get game time at Celtic up top, with Leigh Griffiths’ absence and Odsonne Edouard having had some slight injury issue this season, meaning the Glasgow side are light in that area and could do with back-up, which Weah could provide.
