It’s been a good summer so far for the Red Devils in the Transfer Tavern, but could it get even better before next season begins? You’d expect Jose Mourinho to improve a number of positions within the first team at Old Trafford, and one area that certainly needs attention is left-back.
Ashley Young has played most of the games over the last year under Jose Mourinho, but he’s not the sort of player to generate excitement around the Transfer Tavern.
Bringing in a replacement, then, could be a good move for the club, and our landlord thinks that Philipp Max, who is rated at £13.5m by Transfer Markt, would be a fantastic choice.
Max, who is 24-years-old, currently plays for Augsburg, and he’s enjoyed a fantastic year or two.
He’s earned plaudits for his incredible attacking play. He picked up a brilliant 13 league assists last term, which is a testament to his quality going forward. Quick and positive in the attack, the German loves to run down the flanks and cause mayhem in the final third.
That doesn’t take away from his skill at the back though. He’s just as effective defensively, and his agility and pace allow him to recover fantastically on the rare occasion that he does make a mistake.
Jose Mourinho values players on their quality defensively first and foremost, and Max would certainly be a hit with the Portuguese. However, he also excels going forward, and so he’d be a fantastic replacement for Young.
