‘Sell him’, ‘Awful footballer’ – Man City fans slate £16.2m-rated defender following Wigan defeat

The Manchester City fans were absolutely stunned in the Transfer Tavern last night after Wigan Athletic proved to be their FA Cup nemesis for the third time in the space of just over 5 years.

Pep Guardiola’s dream of claiming a historic quadruple at City was firmly crushed by a gladiatorial Wigan side last night who defended with greater organisation and commitment than the vast majority of Premier League sides have managed to demonstrate this season. It truly was one of the greatest FA Cup shocks of recent times, and the fact Will Grigg grabbed the unlikely winner ensured that this fairy tale result will live long in the memory of football supporters across the country.

Despite Wigan’s brilliance, there is no doubt that they managed to catch the league-leaders on a rare off day as there were plenty of individual performances in City blue that left plenty to be desired. The likes of John Stones and Kyle walker have both taken plenty of criticism for their part in Wigan’s goal, as the English pairing completely switched off and allowed Will Grigg to run in behind the back-four.

However, it was City’s Brazilian full-back Danilo (valued at £16.2 million by Transfermarkt) who came in for some of the strongest words of criticism on Twitter. From start to finish the 26-year-old looked uncomfortable on the ball and defensively suspect at both right-back and left-back.

In the aftermath of proceedings, the frustrated City supporters took to Twitter to lambaste Danilo for his performance last night, and also to urge Guardiola to start Zinchenko instead of him in the Carabao Cup final this Sunday.

Here’s what the City fans have had to say about Danilo’s performance on Twitter…

Zinchenko while Delph’s out. Has to be. Had my fill of Danilo now.

Wish Danilo would look for a city shirt instead of just taking a shot

Should’ve just kept Kolarov. Saved us a ton of $

Danilo the weak link so far.. we are a master of our own mistakes here and need to get some momentum going.
