Southampton fans here in the Tavern are praying that their side can gather some momentum, as they remain on course for relegation to the Championship. 

The Saints have had a season to forget as relegation to the Championship is looking likely, with Mark Hughes facing an uphill task from here on in to keep Southampton in the Premier League. Sadly, Chelsea were too much for the Saints last weekend, as they threw away a two goal lead to lose 3-2 in a game that summed up their season.

However, Southampton will travel to Wembley to face Chelsea later on today in the semi-final of the FA Cup, with many of our local residents feeling extremely anxious as securing a place in the final could be huge for their season. But, a number of changes will be expected as they head into a must-win game against one of the best teams in England, with a couple of players possibly dropping to the bench after recent poor performances.

Therefore, these TWO Southampton players absolutely cannot play later today…

Shane Long

Indeed, Shane Long has struggled for minutes in the side throughout the current campaign but finally got a chance against Chelsea, however, it was rather difficult for him to fashion any chances against a tough defence.

Sadly, it looks as if the Republic of Ireland international could be playing in his final season at St Mary’s as he’s fallen heavily out of favour, with many of our local residents wanting to see the back of him in the summer.

So without further ado, Mark Hughes surely cannot start the striker later on today, as Manolo Gabbiadini should be given a chance to showcase his talents against the Blues.

Oriol Romeu

Of course, Oriol Romeu was brought into the side to face the Blues last weekend as a barrier in the middle of midfield, but the Saints lacked creativity at times in a game that saw them become overrun.

Therefore, Mario Lemina should be given a starting place later on today at Wembley Stadium, as he can offer much more in the final third after establishing himself as Southampton’s standout performer.

Nevertheless, Romeu absolutely cannot start against Chelsea after offering very little against them last weekend, with an attack minded player providing more of a threat for the Saints as they’ll look to cause an upset.
