‘Sign him up’ - Man Utd fans are hoping that Mourinho can land defender deal this summer

It’s fair to say that the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big changes at Old Trafford this summer. It has, particularly over the last few months, been a bit of a season to forget for the Red Devils – with Jose Mourinho’s men stumbling after a strong start to the campaign.

A top-four finish is pretty much secured, but their dreams of winning the Premier League and the Champions League have gone up in flames.

As a result, it would make sense for Jose Mourinho to look to bring in a couple of big names this summer.

One player that, according to Sport, is interesting the Man Utd boss is Samuel Umtiti of Barcelona. Significantly, the Frenchman has yet to sign a new deal at the Nou Camp, and as a result, there is apparently a feeling that he is closer to a move to Man Utd than he is to agreeing fresh terms in Spain.

It would certainly be a pretty huge shock to see Umtiti – who is rated at £54 million by Transfer Markt – swap sunny Spain for Manchester. He has emerged as one of their most important players, providing brilliant defending, a strong aerial presence, and great skill with the ball at his feet.

He’s arguably one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and so it will come as no surprise to see that the Man Utd fans over on the Red Devils Subreddit page want to see him at Old Trafford.

Whilst they recognise that a move is, still, very unlikely – many can’t help but dream, it seems.
