The current Manchester United squad cannot compete for the title.
The gap between Manchester United and their cross-city rivals Manchester City was 19 points. Rival clubs, such as Liverpool and Arsenal, have also heavily strengthened their squads in this transfer window. To bridge this gap, more signings are needed at Old Trafford.
One area the club do not need to improve on is between the sticks, in David De Gea the Red Devils have comfortably one of the best stoppers in the League. Elsewhere however, improvements are needed.
The Old Trafford outfit were simply not as comfortable on the ball as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last season, the centre backs available to Jose Mourinho do not have the technical ability required to challenge for the Premier League title.
There are also issues going forward for Manchester United. The signing of Alexis Sanchez was hoped to fix issues going forward, but often seemed to slow down attacks, and didn’t contribute the goals he was expected to. In truth, the Chilean just looked a better player in an Arsenal shirt. Big name players such as Sanchez and Paul Pogba seemed to have off days all too often in the last campaign.

The England international should be high up on the radar of Jose Mourinho.
A good season for Leicester City last season, followed by an excellent World Cup for England, proves Maguire is ready to move to an elite club. Maguire is still just 25 years old, and could command the centre back role at Old Trafford for many years to come.
Maguire has the ability on the ball that is currently missing at Old Trafford. Players like Victor Lindelof do not have the ability to carry the ball and contribute to attacks like Harry Maguire, who contributes more than just defensive qualities to the game.
A threat from set pieces, and a composed defender who doesn’t get drawn into going to ground, Maguire is the perfect modern day centre back. If Manchester United add Maguire, they will take a major step towards closing the gap between themselves and Manchester City.
The Croatian would be a key signing at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have been linked with the Inter Milan winger and World Cup finalist in this window. Whilst the player would command a high transfer fee, he would be worth the expense.
Perisic is a regular feature in Inter’s side, and as well as assists chips in with plenty of goals. He has great technical ability and an excellent understanding of the game. A player of his experience would be ready to come to Old Trafford and make an immediate impact. His direct and forward thinking approach is what Old Trafford has been crying out for.
The Frenchman is quite simply the hottest property in football right now.
Following a stunning World Cup campaign with the French squad, the 19 year old star has been linked with a host of clubs.
The PSG man would command a huge transfer fee, but with the potential and current ability of the 19 year old that is hardly surprising. The player looks the complete package, and the sky is the limit for the young teenager.
Linking up with French team mate Paul Pogba, United would once again be the most feared team in England. The club should do everything to try and bring the player to Old Trafford.
