Sky Sports man reveals what Solskjaer must do after Man Utd’s significant PSG setback

Man Utd’s honeymoon period was always going to end at some point, but it was brought to an emphatic close on Tuesday when the Red Devils took on PSG.

Undeniably their toughest game under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, Man Utd eventually fell to a 2-0 loss against the French outfit, and that leaves their quest of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League particularly difficult.

However, Man Utd can’t get down about it, and they need to ensure that their bad spell ends after just one game. The important fixtures are coming thick and fast over the coming weeks, and next up for the Red Devils is a tie in the FA Cup against Chelsea on Monday.

Sky Sports analyst Adam Bate has been discussing Man Utd’s game against PSG, and he’s revealed what must come next for the Red Devils.

He wrote: ‘Solskjaer’s challenge is to ensure that they bounce back. This was the first real setback of his reign, coming just when the mood music was suggesting his appointment on a permanent basis was now inevitable. But picking up the players following defeat is an essential part of management. All eyes will be on how well United recover from this disappointment.’

Clearly, Bate recognises the importance of returning to form quickly. Old Trafford has been such a zone of positivity lately, and the manager can’t afford to let that slip. They are, of course, still fighting on a number of fronts, and whilst progression in the Champions League is now looking somewhat unlikely, making it into the top four and getting into Europe next term certainly isn’t.

In truth, this result could be the making of the manager. If he’s able to turn the team around and get them back to winning ways, that could go a long way to earning him the job long-term. However, if another poor result comes against Chelsea, maybe that’s a sign that he isn’t the best man for the job long-term.

It’s all to play for Man Utd and their manager, even if their European future isn’t looking too bright.
