The Newcastle fans are in the Transfer Tavern tonight and they seem ready to go for the new Premier League season.

Newcastle achieved what many expected of them last season and achieved promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

This coming season is now a crucial time for Newcastle and when a team plays such convincing football, it is likely to attract some interest in the transfer market.

Rafa Benitez needs to make sure he holds onto a select few players who are the backbone of his side or else Newcastle could face relegation again.

Of course, it is a team sport but there are a few within Newcastle’s ranks that Benítez should make sure remain at the club.

It is the sort of players who can make the difference in a game seemingly all by themselves that can be a priceless commodity to the Magpies.

With that being said, here are two Newcastle players they simply couldn’t live without.

Matt Ritchie

Many Newcastle fans’ player of the season, Matt Ritchie turned a few heads when he left a first team spot at Premier League Bournemouth to join Championship Newcastle.

It has proved to be a good move for the Scot, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists for the Magpies in the league last season.

His danger on the right side of midfield is enough to worry any Premier League left back.

He is someone Newcastle can’t got without.

Ciaran Clark

Thanks to Ciaran Clarks efforts at the back last season, Newcastle conceded the joint least amount of goals in the Championship.

He also provided three goals and two assists from the centre of defence, not bad for his debut season in Tyneside.

Another player who was seen as the fans’ player of the season, Ciaran Clark will be well suited to life in the Premier League with the rest of the Newcastle back line.
