There hasn’t been an awful lot to shout about for the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern this season, despite the fact they were dancing on the pool tables for pretty much the entirety of the summer.
Jose Mourinho is yet to wholly convince in charge of the Red Devils and, while their big money signings have played well at times, remain well off the pace in the Premier League title race.
So, reports from the Sun today have given the United locals some food for thought.
They claim crocked defender Antonio Valencia is desperate to sort out his future at Old Trafford after emerging as one of the Portuguese’s stalwarts prior to his broken arm injury.
Out of contract at the end of the campaign, the Ecuadorian is reportedly eager to remain at the Theatre of Dreams, having signed way back in 2009.
Having moved from a winger into a right-back for the past few years, the former Wigan man was largely first-choice ahead of Matteo Darmian before he was ruled out with a bone break.
He is thought to have a 12-month extension option on his deal and is said to be keen to sort his future out ASAP.
“The club won’t be rushed into a decision, but Antonio is loved here”, said a club source.
“He wants to stay and is hoping to sit down with Jose and the club at the earliest opportunity.”
United fans, do you want Valencia to stay?! Let us know below…
