Southampton fans are not happy with the latest update on their plans to replace Danny Ings, who recently left the club in favour of a move to Aston Villa.

Ings made 100 appearances for the Saints, and certainly made a positive impact, as he netted 46 goals whilst also chipping in with ten assists for his team-mates.

It was reported by Hampshire Live that Southampton obtained a fee in the region of £30million for Ings this summer, with Villa seemingly using some of the money they earned from Jack Grealish's departure.

Adam Armstong was reportedly among their targets to replace Ings, but it appears as though the Blackburn Rovers forward is now set to sign for Crystal Palace, with Sky Sports claiming that talks are at an advanced stage.

Hampshire Live have then revealed that Southampton will 'address cheaper alternatives' in their efforts to replace Ings this summer, before potentially making another offer for Armstrong if he is still available.

The former Newcastle United forward netted 29 goals in 43 appearances for Blackburn Rovers last term, as they finished 15th in the Championship table.

Plenty of Southampton supporters took to social media to react to this transfer update on their plans moving forward this summer.

"Just relegate us now."

"And I’m supposed to believe the club is in a good place? Before the ‘we’ve got no money’ argument comes in, we’ve just got 28 million from Ings and will likely get a decent enough fee for Vestergaard. Utter shambles."

"This club is an absolute joke. Buying cheap in the hope they come off is absolute relegation fodder."

"This is us all over, selling big and buying cheap.. isn't this model why we are where we are?"

"Knew it. Won't spend half the money we got for Ings I guarantee it. If we buy someone it'll be some unproven 20yo who is 'one for the future' yet can't help us with this season."

"This tweet symbolises everything about what’s wrong with Saints at the moment."

"I hate everything about this. We are literally running head first into the relegation zone at this point."
