Southampton forward set to leave in January

Gaston RamirezSouthampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have heard additional rumours this morning about one of their players who is set to exit the club in the near future and there are no surprised faces amongst the regulars.

Reports from the Mirror are suggesting that Saint’s forward, Gaston Ramirez, is set to leave the club after a disappointing spell on the south coast.

Ramirez, whose contract expires next summer, will be free and willing to talk to clubs abroad in the New Year after failing to fulfil his expectations at St Mary’s. One team looking likely to secure the services of the out-of-favour Uruguayan is Serie A side, Lazio.

Lazio attempted to sign Ramirez from Bologna six months ago and President Claudio Lotitio and Sporting Director Igli Tare are still thought to be hopeful of doing completing a deal after missing out on Ramirez previously.

The 24-year-old forward joined Southampton for a £12 million price tag and signed a four-year contract with the club.

However, after just making 46 appearances for the club in two years and netting 6 goals, Ramirez’ services weren’t required for the club and he was then sent out on a season-long loan to Hull City.

Making just 21 appearances for the Tigers and scoring a single goal, his run of form in England ended just as it started; in a disappointing, frustrating and underwhelming fashion.

This is one Saint who the majority of fans will be happy to see go marching out; both for the sake of the club and for this young footballer’s chance to rebuild his career.

Southampton fans, do you think that Gaston Ramirez is right to leave in January or do you believe he still has a future at the club? Let us know your opinions in the comments section below!
