According to The Mirror, Southampton are looking into the possibility of a transfer for Schalke striker Eric Choupo-Moting in the January window.
It’s come as pretty welcome news to our Saints fans here in the Transfer Tavern who are looking for the club to invest in players in January instead of letting them go.
They want to see their team prove the doubters wrong and qualify for Europe again this season despite having more key departures in the summer potentially jeopardising their campaign.
They’ve looked pretty assured, though, under Claude Puel and now it appears he wants to continue to bolster the squad.
Choupo-Moting has three goals in 15 games so far this season for the Bundesliga club and if the Saints do decide to make a firm offer for him, they could reportedly face competition from Stoke.
The Potters currently have Wilfried Bony as their main striker but with him only at the club on a loan deal it remains to be seen if he stays at the club, returns to Manchester City, or goes elsewhere.
It could be a two-way battle, then, and our landlord thinks Southampton would be the better fit for the forward.
