Tottenham: Antonio Conte told Clement Lenglet will ‘go on his way’

Clement Lenglet in action for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has been told by one pundit that defender Clement Lenglet will ‘go on his way’ in 2023.

The Lowdown: Paratici master-class?

The north Londoners backed Conte with an array of summer transfers over, arguably, one of their best windows of the Premier League era.

Tottenham sealed eight major deals, including a permanent move for Cristian Romero, with Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Lenglet, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie also signing on the dotted line.

As such, Spurs remain up there with England’s elite with Conte seemingly transforming their fortunes after Nuno Espirito Santo’s regrettable tenure this time last year.

The Latest: Conte told Lenglet will depart Spurs…

Lenglet has earned some praise for his contribution in a Lilywhites jersey thus far but Conte and supporters have been told that the Frenchman is unlikely to stay beyond loan spell from Barcelona.

Tottenham latest news!

Speaking to Football Insider, Spurs pundit John Wenham claims the 27-year-old will be told to leave in a ‘harsh’ call by club officials.

“It’s a bit harsh on him but I think he will play this season and do well but now Davies counts as homegrown in Champions League squads and Lenglet is only on loan, I could see us going in for another top-level centre-back.

“Lenglet will be told thanks for everything and will go on his way. That is harsh because he’s good and I like him but he isn’t better than what we have.”

The Verdict: Give him time…

There are many months of the season remaining and Lenglet could yet impress Tottenham chiefs enough to warrant talks over a permanent deal.

Spurs fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the season against Man City?

The £121,000-per-week central defender has experience as an international in a star-studded France side and his ‘positive’ play out from the back has been revered since arriving from Barca.

Conte could yet convince Tottenham to keep Lenglet if the Italian deems his temporary player worthy of an indefinite place in this squad.
