Harry Redknapp has thankfully seen sense and swerved the opportunity of a lifetime to purchase the services of James Milner. The player was too expensive and their interest had accordingly cooled as the price tag climbed and climbed.
Aston Villa of course are entitled to ask what they want for the player, bless ’em. But Milner, who had a good season with Villa and a limited run in the England team that oscillated between naff and just about alright isn’t worth £24 million.
Chelsea went bonkers with a bottomless pit of money once. They bought talented, dangerous footballers. Manchester City seem now to be on a course of action to parody this by mounting a buying campaign modeled on the TV show Bargain Hunt, where the contestants buy at retail and sell at wholesale.
