Tottenham Hotspur: Joshua King targeted by Spurs amid AC Milan interest

Tottenham are plotting a move for Bournemouth striker Joshua King in the transfer window and have registered their interest in the player.

That is according to a report from Football Insider, which also claimed that the 28-year-old has emerged as a target for AC Milan, with the Cherries open to offers for him following their relegation from the Premier League and with the Norway international into the final year of his current contract.

King is a former Manchester United academy graduate who made just two first team appearances for the Red Devils until moving on to Blackburn and subsequently Bournemouth, where he has established himself as a Premier League player.

The Norwegian, who can play anywhere across the attacking line as well as a second striker, has scored 48 goals in the English top flight, including six for the Cherries in their unsuccessful battle against the drop last season (as per TransferMarkt).

Valued at £14.4m by TransferMarkt, he was the subject of a £25m bid from Manchester United back in January, and while that move did not come to fruition, prospective suitors like Tottenham could be able to land him for a lesser amount given his contract status and Bournemouth’s openness to offers for their prize assets following their relegation.

Jose Mourinho currently has Harry Kane as the only out-and-out centre-forward in his senior squad and therefore could be on the lookout for an alternative to the England captain, who has been beset by several injuries in recent seasons.

King may not be in the same class as Kane in terms of goal-scoring, with the Tottenham striker surpassing the 20-goal mark in each of the past six seasons.

However, he is a proven scorer at Premier League level and could be available for a modest fee, while Bournemouth may also be willing to do business this summer. Plus, Spurs could do with more depth at centre-forward should anything preclude Kane from being involved.

Therefore, King is a target well worth pursuing for the Londoners in this transfer window.
