Metro have Arsenal fans looking up with interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern but it is safe to say that Liverpool fans do not share their festive glee.

The publication has claimed that Arsene Wenger has spoken out about just why Alexis Sanchez decided to choose Arsenal over Liverpool.

The Reds were of course keen to sign him in order to boost their title challenge and go one better this term but it was not to be.

Wenger spoke about convincing Alexis to chose the North London side over last seasons’ Premier League runners-up and claimed: “I just tried, like every manager, to convince the player that you can help him to develop the quality of his game, that the way we play football would suit him and that’s why I think he has chosen us in the end.

“As well, we have continuity. All the player wants to do is play in the Champions League – it is quite simple. We have quite a good continuity on that front.”

As our regulars note, is it a probably a good idea that Alexis picked Arsenal to feature in the Champions League regularly given the Gunners have that aim locked down!
