Despite growing unrest from the Arsenal faithful, it looks as if Arsene Wenger will continue his long-term strategy of trying to recruit the best young talent in the game, in preference to players with proven experience at the highest level, and his latest target seems to be Mexican hotshot Carlos Fierro.
Fierro, 16, shone at the recent Under-17’s World Cup, scoring four goals and grabbing five assists for Mexico, and is surely one of the prized assets at his club, Chivas Guadalajara. The Sun reports that Arsenal are prepared to offer £2M for the youngster, and appear to be favourites to land the player, but may also face competition from Tottenham Hotspurs and Hoffenheim for his signature.
Although Arsenal fans may have good reason for beginning to lose patience with Wenger over his consistent preference to sign young players, there is no doubting his ability to put these youngsters on the path to greatness, with Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere perfect examples of this. Already being dubbed as the ‘next Chicarito’, there is no doubt that Fierro has the potential to go far, but as the legendary Alan Hansen said, you’ll never win anything with kids.
