Many Sunderland fans were delighted as the club confirmed the appointment of David Preece as their new goalkeeping coach (safc.com).

The Black Cats' preparations for the new League One season are almost at an end - they will kick off their campaign on Saturday with a clash at the Stadium of Light against Wigan Athletic. After the Wearsiders narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship last time out, they will be hoping to get the job done this season instead.

They have not been hugely busy so far during the transfer window, but they have brought in a new face in the backroom staff (safc.com). Preece used to line out for Sunderland in his playing days, so it is something of a homecoming for him.

The news was shared on Twitter by Sunderland's official channel and it attracted the attention of many Black Cats supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on Preece's appointment.
