Sunderland fans are absolutely delighted after the club revealed that the supporters have raised £40,000 for their community through the purchase of commemorative tickets for the EFL Trophy final against Tranmere.
The Black Cats made it to Wembley after edging past Lincoln City on penalties in the semi-finals. Unfortunately for the supporters, they will be unable to travel to the game due to the coronavirus pandemic – the game will therefore be played behind closed doors.
The club still decided to try and raise some funds, allowing fans to purchase commemorative tickets to mark the occasion. The fans have got behind the initiative and have raised a big amount of money that can be put to good use upon Wearside.
