Sunderland: Fans fume at Bailey Wright and his performance against Wigan

Many Sunderland fans are slating Bailey Wright following his defending in the build up to Wigan opening the scoring in the match on Saturday.
He was easily turned by Kyle Joseph, who slotted the ball home in the 16th minute (SofaScore). With the club announcing Lee Johnson as the manager earlier today, this would not have been the start anyone wanted.
The Black Cats sit eighth in the division, and the new manager will be expected to get them at least into the play-offs by the end of the season, if not one better with automatic promotion.
The Australian defender has had a good campaign so far in League One, featuring 14 times, and even picking up a goal along the way (Transfermarkt). In these 14 appearances, he has been a part of ten clean sheets, so he is clearly a vital player for the club. However, he can’t be defended for his failure in the first half against Wigan, especially when there is only ten points separating the top ten teams in the division, so every point is crucial.

That’s a really poor goal from Sunderland to concede, first Wigan attack and they take the lead, very poor from Bailey Wright who’s been the best player this season and Kyle Joseph picks it to fire beyond Lee Burge in the Black Cats goal #SAFC
