Many Sunderland fans have been left to slam the display of Jake Vokins despite their 3-0 away win over Burton Albion in League One on Saturday afternoon.
The Stadium of Light faithful ran out very comfortable winners in the end thanks to goals from Grant Leadbitter, Lynden Gooch and Charlie Wyke, and although there were some good performances in a red-and-white-striped shirt, Vokins’ flattered to deceive several SAFC supporters.
Should Sunderland start Vokins?
The 20-year-old, currently on loan at Lee Johnson’s team from Southampton, failed to record a single clearance or interception, key pass, cross or accurate long ball from his left wing-back role, and also had fewer touches of the ball than his own goalkeeper in Lee Burge (Sofascore).
He also lost possession of the ball eight times, earning him a quite measly 6.9 overall rating on Sofascore, the joint-lowest out of any of his teammates to have started the game.
Sunderland fan reaction to Vokins display
These Black Cats slammed his performance on Twitter, with one fan saying that the Englishman was ‘frustrating’ him:
“I’m sorry but I’m still not convinced about Vokins, sloppy defensively and poor going forward too #SAFC”
“Vokins never put in a single challenge to stop a cross was frustrating the life out of me”
“Vokins needs work!”
“Vokins has definitely won a competition to be a professional footballer”
“Move Power to lb and bring on anyone else but as long as Vokins is off”
“Considering the fact that we got a makeshift defence out we’re looking canny. O’Nien outstanding again but someone’s got to be a cover for Vokins, he’s been ok gannin forward but my heart’s in me gob when he has to defend, his tackling is awful”
