Sunderland have now been dealt a fresh injury blow before they prepare to face Charlton Athletic away from home in League One on Saturday afternoon.

The Lowdown: Trio in training

Nathan Broadhead, Aiden McGeady and Luke O'Nien have all been pictured in training this week ahead of the game, as they look to recover from their own individual injury setbacks.

While the Stadium of Light faithful will have been hoping that all three can return against the Addicks, Alex Neil has unfortunately confirmed that one of them will definitely miss out.

The Latest: Neil update

As quoted by The Chronicle, Neil teased in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match that two of the three players are close to a return, but one has definitely been ruled out:

"Of the three, there's one who is nowhere near ready, there's one who is getting there, and there's one who is a lot closer - I'll let you decide which one is which!"

The Verdict: Blow

It would certainly be a blow for the Wearside club to be without even just one of these players for the clash.

Broadhead, McGeady and O'Nien all rank in the top six players for them in terms of performances in the league so far this term, as per WhoScored, and have contributed no fewer than ten goals and five assists between them combined.

Nonetheless, with a play-off spot not guaranteed, the Black Cats need as many of their key players fit to give them the best chance of getting promoted up to the Championship.
