Lee Burge has now posted an exciting message before Sunderland play Lincoln City away from home in League One on Saturday afternoon.

The Lowdown: Heart problems

Burge has unfortunately been suffering from heart problems throughout the season, and has not featured at the Stadium of Light since their 1-0 loss to Mansfield Town in the FA Cup back in November.

Of course, with there being more attention on heart issues following what happened to Christian Eriksen on the world stage for Denmark at Euro 2020, it is vital that Burge is not rushed back onto the pitch, and that he should only play if he is ready.

The Latest: In training

As posted by the official Twitter page of the Black Cats, Burge is now back in training with the team after a long period out.

The Englishman replied to the post himself, tweeting: 'Great to be back'.

The Verdict: Exciting

It is certainly exciting to see Burge back in training after the problems that he has had to deal with over the last few months.

Even though Anthony Patterson has received praise when stepping in for Burge this term, the 29-year-old will still feel as if he is the number one choice going forward, given that he was ever-present last campaign.

Nonetheless, with two clean sheets but just 11 goals conceded in nine games in total over all competitions this season, five of which coming against Premier League Arsenal in one match (Transfermarkt), Burge is a safe pair of hands, and Alex Neil will certainly want him as an option going forward.
