Sunderland boss wants to tie down talented ace

Duncan WatmoreDespite the sinking feeling and lack of optimism from most Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern, they’ve been given some hope after hearing positive news about the future of one of their young starlets.

Reports from the Sunderland Echo suggest that Black Cat’s boss, Sam Allardyce, wants to tie-down Sunderland hot prospect, Duncan Watmore “as soon as possible”.

Despite Allardyce declaring that all contract talks with Sunderland’s senior squad were on ice until their Premier League status was assured, he’s made it clear how keen he is to keep Watmore at the club and secure his future as soon as possible. Allardyce told the Echo:

“Duncan Watmore is one we’d like to resolve as soon as possible. He is a different case to the others because he’s a young player and he’s one who down the line, you would see making a big contribution to the first-team.”

“He’s one you would see becoming a first-team regular.”

Watmore, who impressed Allardyce in Sunderland’s 6-2 defeat against Everton earlier this week, has earned England under-21s honours this season and the Black Cat’s boss sees the forward as part of his plans for the future.

It is understood that Watmore is keen to stay at the Stadium of Light but the exit of Dick Advocaat postponed previous talks. However, fresh negotiations are expected to take place over the next couple of weeks which could ensure that the youngster has a prolonged future at the club.

Sunderland fans, how big a player can Duncan Watmore be in the future and could he be the key to Premier League survival?
