Sunderland have been told that Northampton Town’s Charlie Goode will cost £1m this summer as two more Championship clubs join the transfer race for him, according to TEAMtalk.
Black Cats manager Phil Parkinson could face a busy summer as he looks to bolster his squad options ahead of the 2020/21 season after a second consecutive failure to gain promotion from League One which has put pressure firmly on the shoulders of the Sunderland boss.
A number of transfer rumours have started to flood in across different media outlets whilst deals for Australian defender Bailey Wright and Aiden O’Brien have been completed. One player linked with a move to the Stadium of Light is Goode, who has impressed for Northampton.
The Northampton captain led his team to promotion from League Two last month via the play-off final and his performances initially led to interest from two Championship clubs, according to Sky Sports‘ northeast correspondent Keith Downie.
Downie also claimed that the 24-year-old centre-back is valued at £750,000, despite Transfermarkt having his value currently set at £90,000, and that has now been countered by TEAMtalk, who say Northampton are holding out for a transfer fee of £1m.
The report among others from various media outlets added that Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers are also keen to pursue the defender.
Sunderland could have a tough job to convince Goode to join them if they are interested, given that the lure of the Championship may be very inviting for the 24-year-old.
Northampton seemingly do not want to lose their club captain and the £1m asking price may prove to be a stumbling block for some clubs.
