Sunderland fans have pretty awful memories of when David Moyes was at the club. The Black Cats appointed Moyes in summer 2016 in what was the Scottish tactician’s first Premier League job since being sacked at Old Trafford. The season was a shocking one, though, and Moyes found himself relegated. The season could have been so different if he’d opted to sign Yann M’Vila however.

M’Vila played one season on-loan at Sunderland during the 2015/16 season and he reall connected with the fans. At the end of his single year at The Stadium of Light is seemed that both the player and the club wanted to see the loan move become a permanent one. That was until Moyes came along and decided against signing M’Vila, instead opting to splash double the money it would take to land the Frenchman on Didier Ndong.
It’s safe to say that this was one of the biggest blunders of Moyes career, Ndong has since gone on to go AWOL from Sunderland had his contract terminated by the club whilst M’Vila is enjoying life plying his trade in Ligue 1 with St Ettiene. If the club had appointed someone other than Moyes and signed M’Vila then there’s a strong argument to say they might still be in the Premier League, leaving the Sunderland fans with nothing but what-ifs.
Here’s what the Black Cats on Twitter have been saying about M’Vila and Moyes:
You’ve ruined my Monday thought I was over him

I still blame Moyes for not signing him – ended up spending twice as much on N’Dong. Brilliant manager

The fans are still fuming with Moyes about not signing M’Vila and will do everything they can to try and forget that dreaded season of 2016/17.
