Surely 1 of these 4 midfielders should join Man Utd in January

With the January transfer window fast approaching, the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been waxing poetic about just what might happen in the market.

Having splashed big (and we mean big) money in the summer, the Red Devils remain some way off the pace in the Premier League title race and currently look bereft of confidence and ideas in equal measure.

Still, such is the nature of the club these days, the temptation to simply throw more money at the problem in January may well prove to be all too much.

Where the club’s problems lie right now mainly seem to be in midfield. World record man Paul Pogba has provided more questions than answers since joining from Juventus and bringing the best out in him is certainly proving difficult.

So, what better way to rectify it than spending yet more huge amounts of cash in the New Year?

With that in mind, surely ONE of these FOUR midfielders could join United in January.

John Obi Mikel

Linked with a surprise move to Old Trafford as his time with Chelsea draws to a close, the Nigerian could be a welcome addition to United’s midfield ranks.

Solid and dependable, his stoic presence in the engine room could help provide Pogba with licence to roam from deep, while also providing a huge amount of Premier League experience.

Danny Drinkwater

Having paid huge money to bring Paul Pogba back to the club in the summer, the punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern would not at all be surprised to see Danny Drinkwater make a similar return.

A title winner with Leicester City, the England international could be the long-term heir to Michael Carrick’s crown at Old Trafford.

Gelson Martins

The latest huge talent to come out of Sporting Lisbon’s academy, Portuguese youngster Gelson Martins has been linked with a move to United of late.

They have a proud history of business, having nabbed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani from those in the Portuguese capital and the tricky winger could be another signing akin to Anthony Martial.

James Rodriguez

Blockbuster moves such as James Rodriguez moving to Old Trafford aren’t so naturally associated with the January window, though reports suggest his relationship with Zinedine Zidane is an all-time low.

Perhaps he’s not the exact type of player United need right now, though when has that ever stopped them?!
