Indeed, Rangers have been a forced to be reckoned with under Graeme Murty, as they look set to secure a European place for the second successive season. However, with there only being seven matchdays remaining in the Scottish Premier League season, the business end of things are now well underway for Rangers in what is a crucial period at Ibrox.

And, our local residents here in the Tavern are incredibly confident heading into today’s match away at Hamilton, following on from a 6-1 drubbing of Ayr United in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. Indeed, there was a number of positives for Murty to take away from last weekend’s game, with some of their January signings managing to open accounts and add to their tallies.

But, it wasn’t all positives for the Bluenoses in the victory at Somerset Park, as the early goal conceded on Sunday was a worrying sign with them perhaps struggling to come back from similar fate against a stronger opposition.

Therefore, here’s a look at TWO flops that need to be dropped by Murty for the game against Hamilton today…

Greg Docherty

The 21-year-old signed from Hamilton Academical in the January transfer window, and his performances so far in the side have made fans view the player as one for the future.

Indeed, as a starter in the weekend’s game against Ayr United, Docherty played most of the game on the fringes without causing the opposition as many threats as some of his other teammates did.

Therefore, Graeme Murty will opt for experience over youthful exuberance, as Jason Holt could be rewarded with his place back in the side away at New Douglas Park.

The Mexican has been very much utilized as an impact substitute so far this season for the Gers, as he fails to show that extra spark needed for a starting berth in the side.

And, the weekend’s game wasn’t an exception for the striker, as the win over Ayr saw Eduardo Herrera brought on in the 76th minute for Rangers. But, his performance was rather dull and offered a lack of class at times, which perfectly describes the shape of his current stint at Ibrox after only managing to produce two goals in 24 appearances.

Indeed, with a trip to Hamilton next on the agenda for Graeme Murty’s men, it’s likely that the 29-year-old will be dropped from the bench, as he’ll need to buck up his ideas if he’s to be rewarded with a place in the side for games to come.
