Newcastle United have had a horror season in their first year back in the Premier League, with relegation to the Championship looking to be haunting this historic club once again.
Currently sitting three points above the relegation zone, it’s fair to say that the Magpies are going to have to pull off some special business in the transfer window with other teams looking to strengthen.
However, this could become difficult with the club still looking for a new owner, as the greedy Mike Ashley ended discussions with Amanda Staveley earlier this week. Indeed, with negotiations seemingly getting nowhere for now, Rafa Benitez may have to conduct a thorough search during the transfer window, with bargain deals becoming the reality for the Toon Army.
So without further ado, here’s a look at THREE bargain buys Newcastle United should look to land…
Mariano Andujar
Mario Andujar is a former client of Rafa Benitez’s after working with each-other at Napoli, and someone who the Spaniard is very fond of.
Having been a trusted goalkeeper under Benitez already in his career, the Argentine would trump the likes of Karl Darlow and Rob Elliott with his experience and ability far superior to theirs.
In the current crisis that Newcastle United are in, acquiring the ‘keeper for Argentine side Estudiantes would go a long way to ensuring their survival.
Indeed, at the age of 34-years-old, he could be available for a bargain price.
Davide Santon
Another former client of Rafa Benitez during his time at Inter Milan, and a player who Newcastle United fans will have fond memories of after his four years on Tyneside.
There’s no doubt that there’s an immediate need for another couple of full-backs at Newcastle United, with Javier Manquillo failing to live up to Premier League standards once again.
With the Italian having featured in only nine appearances so far this season in Milan, and with his contract set to expire in the summer he could be available at a low price.
Danny Ings
The injury-prone Liverpool striker has had yet another injury-hit season at the Reds. But for a player that showed so much promise prior to his Anfield move, there’s no doubt the 25-year-old has an incredible goal-scoring ability from his 38 goals with the Clarets.
Indeed, with goals hard to come by for the Magpies so far this season, replacing the ineffective Joselu will be at the top of Benitez’s list as one of the lowest scoring teams in the top-flight.
Nevertheless, with Danny Ings failing to break into arguably the Premier League’s most dangerous attack, a loan move could help drive them out of relegation trouble in signing a proven goal-scorer.
