John Terry has been the one constant at Chelsea since the arrival of Roman Abramovich over a decade ago – but at present, it looks like his tenure with the Blues is coming to an end.
An injury-layoff for Terry facilitated a formation change for Antonio Conte – and whilst Terry has now returned, he has lost his place in the Chelsea first team.
In truth, it is hard to argue against results – with the Blues flying high in Terry’s absence, but when you consider how successful Chelsea have been over the last few years with Terry in the team – that argument comes into question.
The fact of the matter is that Chelsea are simply a better team when John Terry is given a starting berth – and the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern think that there are a plethora of reasons as to why that is the case.

Experience
Simply put – John Terry is the most experienced player in the Chelsea first team.
When it comes to the experience of playing for Chelsea, or more to the point – the experience of winning; nobody knows more than Terry.
He has played for Chelsea at the highest level longer than a fair few of Chelsea’s players have even been professional footballers – and that is a quality that cannot be undervalued.
The side is working right now, but in the long-run – you need that experience, and John Terry must be there to provide it.
Reliability
John Terry is not out of the team because he has played badly – he is out of the team because he suffered an injury.
After all his years at the top, he deserves an opportunity in the first team to prove his worth – and in typical Terry fashion, you can bet your house on the fact that he will play well.
Terry rarely ever has a bad game, and Conte is relying on inconsistent players like Cahill and Luiz at present – and that is a huge risk.
Terry will provide reliability – and that will be huge this season.
