The United fans lining the bar here in the Tavern are nervous for the rest of the campaign, with Champions League football still yet to be secured!
United boss Jose Mourinho has a big opportunity to bring Champions League football back to Old Trafford this season and if the Red Devils are to make it into the top-four, supporters will be seeing the best players take to the pitch yet again next season.
But there’s one player that certainly won’t be playing Champions League football next season with the rest of the first-team squad and that’s £1.7million-rated forward James Wilson, who has struggled for game-time at the club over the last few years.
He struggled at Derby County earlier this campaign having suffered a long-term knee injury and his Old Trafford career looks to be coming to an end. And the 21-year-old should now be thinking about a move away from the club this summer if his career is to get back on track.
And one club we think could offer him a chance to get back to his best is Aston Villa, who will be fighting it out in the Championship yet again next season after a poor campaign this time out.
Having sacked Roberto Di Matteo earlier on this campaign, Villa will need to add some quality to their ranks this summer to ensure they don’t fail yet again. And Wilson, who has a whole bank of Championship experience under his belt, would be a cracking addition to the team.
He’s quick, intelligent and knows where the goal is.
His Old Trafford career might not have worked out but if he gets the chance to shine at Villa Park, he might be back underway again.
