The wisdom of Rafa Benitez enabled the Magpies to earn instant promotion to the top-flight and one player who was pivotal to that success has returned on a permanent deal as Christian Atsu arrived from Chelsea.

Newcastle still have a tough task to remain in the Premier League as clubs continue to splash their TV cash on players with ridiculous price tags that only English teams could ever afford.

In order to boost the available funds, our Toon Army landlord suggested Benitez gets rid of a few players who aren’t in his plans nor wanted on Tyneside as they prepare for life back in the first division.

Emmanuel Riviere

Emmanuel Rivière was thought to be Newcastle’s first-choice striker upon his arrival in the north-east three summers ago but his time there has gone little to plan as suggested.

The Frenchman has only racked up a handful of appearances for the Magpies, which has slightly frustrated fans in the Football Transfer Tavern, and following their drop to the second-tier was shipped out on loan to Osasuna in Spain.

The 27-year-old has little hope at Newcastle United and will continue to sit in the stands on a weekly basis if he doesn’t force a move through this summer, otherwise he can say goodbye to his career.

Rolando Aarons

It has become a rarity for the club’s youth academy to produce such talented youngsters in recent years but one who is seemingly on the wrong path is 21-year-old winger Rolando Aarons.

Since making his debut in August 2014, Aarons has struggled with constant injury problems and has never really got his time on Tyneside kick-started.

The Newcastle-mad bar man in the tavern thinks it is best for the attacker to move on because there is no way Rafa Benitez will take a punt on him in the Premier League, consistently sitting on the bench is the only other option than to move.
